Vulcan Painters Announces CAS Certification
Bessemer, AL — August 29, 2011 — John Jenkins of Vulcan Painters Inc., has been certified to the Coating Application Specialist (CAS) interim Level Two, after successfully completing a written exam and practical “hands on” test at the international training center of the Finishing Trades Institute (FTI) in Hanover, MD.
Daniel Penski, director of the FTI, announced the results of the test and the certification on August 25.
Jenkins is the first employee of Vulcan Painters to take the certification test for CAS. Launched in 2008, the CAS program is designed to address a long-recognized need for a comprehensive craft worker training and certification program. With advances in the technology of coatings and new paint formulations, industrial painting has become increasingly technical, and the need for qualified craft workers is widespread. CAS testing covers the knowledge and skills that are the established industry standard, and topics include environmental safety and health, process control, materials, surface preparation and coating application.
The Finishing Trades Institute and Vulcan Painters are readying a CAS testing facility at Vulcan Painters’ Minor, AL, location, to begin testing and certifying qualified painters to CAS this fall.
Sixteen Vulcan employees have already taken the FTI’s 40-hour refresher/test preparation course at the Minor location.
