Vulcan Receives Safety Incentive
Bessemer AL. -- Vulcan Painters Inc. has received a safety incentive from Savannah River Nuclear Solutions for a project at the Savannah River Site (SRS), painting two 60-foot fire water storage tanks. The project location is a Department of Energy Nuclear Facility near Aiken, S.C.
The project included a number of major hazards – control of hazardous energy (lock-out/tag-out), confined space, fall protection, lead, scaffold work (60 feet tall), single-point suspension scaffold (spider basket on the exterior of the tanks) – and involved working near radiation.
The award is based on performance with a good safety record. SRS has strict safety regulations and all SRS employees have the authority to stop a subcontractor's work if they believe it is not being performed safely. Vulcan was told that most subcontractors do not earn the incentive on their first job.
