Miter Gates
Project: Miter gates on the Tombigbee River
Customer: R & D Maintenance Services of Oklahoma for the US Army Corps of Engineers
Scope: Two pairs of miter gates were to be cleaned and painted as part of the ACOE 2014 Lock Closure, from Demopolis to Coffeeville from July 27 to August 26, to perform inspection, repairs and maintenance on the upper and lower gates of the lock. During this time the waterway was closed to boat traffic.
Special conditions: Besides the shutdown timetable, Vulcan Painters dealt with long hours and heat indices approaching 115 degrees on some days. With the challenges of heat and deadlines, Vulcan Painters’ experience with the specially formulated vinyl paint system paid off. Painters worked for four weeks, in 12 hour shifts, day and night to complete the project. The job was completed on time and on budget.
