Certifications
Vulcan Painters is an ISO 9001 certified company, and a substantial number of our painters have achieved the Coating Application Specialist (CAS) Level 2 designation from SSPC.
The SSPC certifications are part of its Painting Contractor Certification Program (PCCP), which establishes consensus standards developed by a diverse committee of industry professionals. Contractors must meet strict standards to demonstrate technical capability, competent corporate management, and quality work in accordance with applicable safety, health, and environmental compliance standards. PCCP is a nationally recognized independent contractor evaluation program and pre-qualification tool developed by SSPC for facility owners and others who hire industrial painting contractors. Read more about these certifications at the Society for Protective Coatings.
QP 1 evaluates contractors who perform surface preparation and industrial coating application on steel structures in the field.
QP 2 is a supplement to QP 1 that evaluates the contractor's ability to perform industrial hazardous paint removal in a field operation.
QP 3 evaluates a contracting company's ability to perform surface preparation and protective coating application in a fixed shop facility.
QP 8 certification evaluates the qualifications of contractors hired to install polymer coatings or surfacings on concrete and other cementitious surfaces in commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities.
SSPC-QS 1 is the standard procedure in the PCCP program that requires participating contractors to implement and document more stringent (ISO 9001 Compliant) quality control and record-keeping procedures than those included SSPC QP 1, SSPC QP 3, etc.
QP 9 contains requirements for evaluating the qualifications of painting contractors who apply architectural coatings on commercial or institutional structures, and defines a minimum standard for qualification.
Vulcan Painters Inc. is also an ISO 9001:2015 certified contractor. ISO is the International Organization for Standardization. The ISO 9001 standards are an international reference for quality requirements in business management. Vulcan Painters has been an ISO 9001 certified company since 2000. Our registrar is Lloyds Register Quality Assurance, a company highly respected in this field.
CAS, the Coating Application Specialist designation, is the first certification program for industrial painters in the United States. Based on consensus standards of SSPC, the Society for Protective Coatings, and NACE, the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, this program specifies the education, training, experience, knowledge, and skills required for the professional industrial painter. It also provides a standard to comprehensively assess & recognize the skills of the industrial painter, through written, and hands-on skills tests.
